Relieve Bunion Pain at Home
Bunions are fairly common foot condition particularly among
women. There are ways to treat bunion pain at home and prevent bunions from
progressing.
A bunion is a deformity of the joint at the base of the big
toe. When the first metatarsal bone turns outward, the joints jut out thus
forming a bunion.
At first, the bunion may not cause any significant pain. But
later on, it can become larger. When this happens, it can become irritated and
painful. Ice packs, warm soaks, and taking non steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or aspirin may help.
Other home treatments for bunions include massage, using gel
pads for the feet or protecting the bunion with moleskin pads.
Wear shoes with deep and wide toe boxes. Use shoes that have
flexible soles to support the feet. Avoid wearing heels higher than two inches.
The higher the heel, the greater the pressure will be on the front of the feet.
Wearing sandals instead of closed shoes is also helpful so that the area of the
bunion will be exposed.
However, for continuing pain that is not relieved by the above measures, bunion surgery is the best option. There is traditional bunion surgery or you can choose the newer no scar bunion surgery which has a considerably shorter recovery time.
